How much Aquarium Salt should I put in my tank?

I’m trying to figure how much aquarium salt I should put in my 1 gallon tank… Instructions say 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons, I need to know how much salt I should put in my 1 gallon tank?? Please honest answers only, I have a sick fish that I need to get better and this will help.
It’s a 1.5 gallon tank, and it’s a fine size.

Don’t listen to Scullycj, please. The box is correct, so you need to use 1/5th of a tablespoon (5mL) of the salt, so for a one gallon tank you would use 3mL, or about 1/2 teaspoon. Certain fish are SCALELESS or otherwise senstive to aquarium salt (like sharks, loaches, knifefish, tetras, eels, catfish, frogs, and more) and cannot tolerate the full dose, so if you have a scaleless fish dose the one gallon tank with half of that, 1/4 teaspoon salt. Research to find out if you fish can handle the salt by going to google.com and typing in the fish’s name along with the word “scaleless” or “aquarium salt” and you’ll know for sure if you can use the full dose.

I am giving you the benefit of the doubt that maybe you are asking about this sick fish in a one gallon tank because if he’s sick, maybe you are just using the one gallon to treat him apart from a larger tank of other fish. If that is the case, I understand. Otherwise if he is always in a one gallon tank, I agree and that is probably too small for any fish unless he’s the size of a half-inch feeder fish. Otherwise, the others are right, restricting a fish to such a small tank is sure to stress him and make him more prone to disease and illness. If it is a hospital tank, I will add that you can always treat the larger tank with salt too. If its his permanent home, you NEED to get a larger tank. You can always find a 5 gallon or something at a yard sale or on CraigsList.
